My little girl is 14 today. So in honor of her 14th birthday, here are 14 things about Hannah....
1. She loves the Lord
2. She has a sweet spirit
3. She is comfortable with herself and doesn't try to be like everybody else.
4. She is very quiet....unless she is in her own habitat ha haha
5. When she was little she wished upon a star for a white horse and a little baby monkey (neither of which came true.)
6. She broke both wrists riding four wheelers one summer at her friend's house.
7. She knocked herself out when she ran into the back of her dad's truck running from a dog.
8. She is a great help to anyone that seeks her assistance
9. She LOVES little babies and could cuddle them all
10. She likes girlie times
11. She is the total opposite of me...except with her sharp tongue when telling you what she REALLY thinks. LOL Still haven't decided if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
12. She calls her daddy "Big Daddy" everytime he calls her "Little Hannah"
13. At one time she wanted to be a chef, but now she wants to be an accountant.
14. She's the sweetest daughter a mother ever had!!!!
I LOVE YOU, HANNAH! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

A Happy Mother's Day, 2009
My Mother's Day began on Saturday. Bruce was going to pick up lunch for us after church Sunday morning since our mothers were coming over to eat with us. But I decided I would cook for them instead. So I began cooking Saturday night. On the menu were Pork chops, slowly cooked in the crock pot, Cheesy potatoes Au Gratin, Southern style green beans, buttered bbq bread, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, sliced watermelon, and cherry cheesecake and brownies for dessert. I gotta tell ya...it was mighty tasty!
Well, anyway, I said my Mother's Day started Saturday...and it did. My brother called while I was cooking and asked if he could come over for a minute. He had just finished visiting with our mom and wanted to stop by on his way home.

He brought me this beautiful green bag filled with all of these wonderful items for a Mother's Day gift. Ahhhhh....don't you just love it. I smelled sooooo good come Sunday morning! And I have some new cosmetics bags now. Mine were becoming quite worn!

Bruce took my picture in front of this verse that Mrs. Ava painted on the wall upstairs at church. That's a good verse for Mother's Day, isn't it?

My Mommy....on Mother's Day! Don't you love her flower?

We had a wonderful service at church Sunday morning and then it was back home for Mother's Day festivities!
I had our mother's gift bags sitting at their seats at the table. My dear mother-in-law just couldn't stand it!! She does love a present!

Yes, this is my mother...crying behind her card after reading the first few words.

We started our moms a collection of the Willow Tree figurines. I chose the Welcoming Angel for my mom. She's holding a pineapple, which is something my mom loves in decorating.
I chose "Love" for Marie. She's holding a long stem rose. Both figurines are so pretty. I think I need to start me a collection of them. :)
My children gave me a UNC pocketbook and on the inside were two girlie flicks, and new thingy for my ipod so I can listen to it in the car. I was sooooo happy!!! No doubt the purse was in light of the Tar Heels championship this year! Whoooop!

And this was the cheesecake....doesn't it look yummy? There were leftovers from everything I made on the menu....except this. I sure would like a slice of that right. Oh well.

Randomness
The last couple of weeks or so has kept our whole family busy doing different things. For one thing the wedding. That was the biggest thing. Now that Andy and Kristen are married and enjoying their honeymoon on the Mediterranean *sigh* we can focus on wrapping the school year up. I was hoping to have that all out of the way this week, but ended up with the stomach flu or something close to it. Not sure. All I know is my insides felt like they were twisted and turned inside out from Sunday night to Wed. I did not want to move at all. Just lay or sit in one spot. Today I am actually feeling somewhat better, just weak in my knees and arms if I'm up for a lengthy period of time. I've had a great day though! Glad the worst part of being sick is OVER!
Since I've been keeping still the last several days and I've already posted on the wedding, I haven't had anything to post about. So here's some random pictures and thoughts of this and that.
OK, this picture is for Arlene. She asked what a cathead biscuit was. This is a cathead biscuit, Arlene....it's a biscuit the size of a cat's head. :)

This is Wanda. She's the lady that makes all of our dental appointments, checks us in, and all that other fun office work we're totally unaware of. The other week when the kids had their appointments, Wanda shared her very sweet testimony with me on a time in her life when she gave up trusting in what she could do and put her trust in what GOD could do. And how in just minutes after placing her worries in God's hands, He went to work and that problem was solved. MINUTES! It was so nice hearing someone share about their faith and trust in Jesus Christ and giving Him glory for His goodness in their lives.
Thanks, Wanda! You were a blessing to talk to that day!

This is a picture I took one day last week. I was on my way to the store and saw this field covered in beautiful purple flowers and just had to get a picture of it. It made me want to run through the field and roll in the flowers. But there are cows in that field, so I didn't.

We had some great services Sunday. Both services were so good!!! This is Pastor Goodman holding one of our little foster children in the church. He is so precious. I just love to hear him talk and his facial expressions will crack you up and melt your heart at the same time. See his little pudgy elbows? Precious, isn't it?

I'm thankful that we attend a Baptist church where you don't have to wait for an official alter call. The alter is always open to do business with God! And there's a feeling of freedom to go when you need to go!
The Sons of Faith sang "The Answer is in God's Word." I love that song.
And this was my randomness. Now I'm going to go enjoy a hot brownie and cold glass of milk. YUM!

Gobs of Wedding pics!!
The wedding was great. It was a very busy couple of days, but who doesn't like working a wedding?
See that smile on Mrs. Ava's face? Her son was getting married and that smile never left the entire time she prepared food, decorated for rehearsal dinners and receptions, cleaned up messes, etc, etc, etc!

These were strawberry vests in the making. Mrs. Ava was making them to go around the Groom's cake.

Andy and Kristen decided to get married in the mountains a couple hours away from here. They looked at all kinds of different churches and found the one they liked best at the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church. They had a small fellowship room in the basement and this is where we had their reception.

This is me cutting rice crispy treats for the chocolate fountains. There was so much food!!

Kristen and Andy showed up with McDonald's. Something everyone was appreciative of!

Mrs. Janet worked and worked on the food for the reception...and then worked some more...and then some more. She wasn't done with the food from the reception until Sunday night.

Andy and Kristen printed off pictures from when they were children and wrapped them around Hershey bars as a table favor for each guest. I thought that was a neat idea.

I was a nervous wreck directing this wedding, marking off everything as it happened. But it went really well once I got everyone down the isle...including myself so I could sing. That was a big worry for me...don't know why, it worked out just fine. Another worry for me were the stupid lighters. I was scared to death that the groomsmen would forget to leave one for the mothers.

Ironing tablecloths.

It was my understanding that the podium was a rock that had been on there for over 150 years.
Mrs. Janet took a break from preparing the food to play the pipe organ.
Mrs. Janet trying to break up white chocolate out of a glass dish. That was interesting.
Andy was ringing the church bell, summoning people from the town to come watch him marry the girl of his dreams. :P
We worked all day with just enough time to freshen up for the rehearsal that evening.
They decided they wanted the mothers/parents/grandparents on the same row. So that's what we did. It was different, but I liked it, seeing the families sitting together.
I can't remember when this was during the rehearsal, but I got tickled at how he was sitting here. He reminds me of that statue "The Thinker." lol
The bride and groom practicing lighting the unity candle.
The rehearsal went very smoothly. No worries...except for the fact that the bride's attendance could not be there. So we used Mrs. Ava's sister and niece. After rehearsal, it was time for the rehearsal dinner at the hotel where we stayed. The Best Western Mountain Lodge. Which, by the way, was a very nice facility if you ever find yourself in the Banner Elk, NC area.
They had just opened a new restaurant in the hotel called Choppers and had this beautiful chopper sitting outside by the front doors.
Andy and Kristen planned a European honeymoon, traveling to different places in Europe so Mrs. Ava used the Eifel tower theme, like what we used for our Valentine Banquet. Everything looked lovely.
Kelly was there to do nails, hair, and whatever else was asked of her. And Becky was there to serve her famous punch and whatever else was asked of her as well. LOOOOOVE her punch!!
A tri-fold frame filled with pictures of the happy couple.
The groom's cake was made by Mrs. Eilene Emory, a lady in our church. This cake was PURE chocolate sin! It was soooooooo good! All you choco-holics out there...y'all would have LOVED it! And of course, Mrs. Ava's vests looked sweet around it, I thought.
We were given our choice of prime rib, chicken, or fish. Bruce chose the prime rib and I chose the chicken. We also chose the garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggies, served with salad and yeast rolls.
After cleaning up the room from the dinner, Bruce went to bed while Janet, Becky, and I drove to the store for a few things, went to Mrs. Ava's mountain house to cook biscuits and gravy for the attendants, and picked up Kelly from doing the girl's nails. And then it was crash time. I barely remember that last hour. I was going on one hour sleep from the night before. So come midnight...chica was ready for bed!
And then the next day it was show time! Bruce played the guitar while I sang I Will Be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman.
The bride and her mom!
The mothers waiting to be seated. Oh, they were both so happy.

The mothers lighting the candles.
Waiting for the bride!
And here she is!
Before announcing them as Mr. and Mrs. Andy Goodman, Pastor presented them with a beautiful new Bible with their names engraved on the front and gave some very sweet words to them.

The new proud papa-in-law!
"The Beginning"
