Christmas, Crafts, and Cooking

When I got home from cleaning a house yesterday, Hannah wanted to decorate for Christmas. So Justin pulled everything down from the attic and the insane rush to decorate and make things pretty for Christmas began. "Insane rush" meaning Bruce was at work and we wanted to get it finished before he got home. I thought he was working a sixteen hour shift. But the kids said he would be home at 10:30. What??? Boy, did that push me into gear! I finished up just minutes before he got home.

We had the house dark with tree lights and candles going. It was so peacful and so pretty. My collection of nativities are out and they are lovely. Just lovely! :D

OK, I have a crafty question. I bought one of those round, plastic covered cake plates. Like Rubbermaid? Anyway, I want to paint the lid with some acrylics. But if it gets washed, the paint will begin to chip. So what would I get to spay over the acrylics to keep that from happening? Any suggestions?

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. We will be celebrating with numerous family members. I need to cook up a couple of desserts. I'm thinking peanut butter fudge and a coconut cake or a chocolate eclaire cake. What will you be doing?

Feeling A Little Crafty

Last night while we were on our date, Bruce and I stopped in at Goodwill and I found these shutters. Which made me think of my blogging friend, Tori. I LOVE Tori. Tori is a missionary with her husband and three great kids in Croatia. She has a thing for rustic windows over there.
So anyway, looking at the shutters and thinking about her thing for windows, I thought of a craft I could do for the house.
The idea is to take these apart, find a mirror to go between them, and have Bruce build me a small flower box to go under the mirror and shutters. I can see it in my head. I think it'll be pretty hanging on the wall.

This week Harrison found his John Deere t-shirt that his Paw Paw bought him a few years ago. He put it on, and of course it was quite a bit above his belly button. We laughed about it. He said he wanted to keep it, just the same. I told him I would make a pillow out of it. Well, our missionaries going to New Zealand (the Howell family) had a yard sale today and one of the items I found was a fiber pillow that hadn't been opened yet. What perfect timing, right???? So I came home and sewed up his shirt into a pillow. He was thrilled and has already been resting on it.

Fun, fun! :)
ETS: I meant to tell what else we found at Goodwill...We found the ENTIRE SET of Creation Seminar Series with Kent Hovind for $6.93, and they have NEVER been opened. Can you believe that?? Needless to say, we'll be doing these for Science this year. And Lord willing, maybe I can talk the principal of our home school into visiting the Creation Museum in Kentucky at the end of the school year. Wouldn't that be a great field trip? :)

Coming Home!

I'll be picking mom up this morning from the hospital rehab. I think she's ready to get outta there!

We were supposed to go to co-op today. I had planned on going and waiting on mom's call to pick her up, but decided that would be a bad idea. For one thing, I know she'll be going early because they told her no physical therapy today. But the other reason is because the in home health care is sending some things to the house this morning that she'll need while she's here. So someone needs to be here when that comes.

We were supposed to do school pictures today at co-op, but I can do that myself sometime this week. I had also planned on a craft idea to do with the children at co-op. My Aunt Janice sent me the idea. It's inexpensive and very simple. You take a small terracotta pot and paint it to look like a candy corn. White on bottom, orange in the middle, yellow on top. Then fill it with candy corn, or your favorite candy. It would make a cute hostess gift if you're going to someone's home for Thanksgiving this year. Or just nice to set out for your visitors.
